At the MidAmerica Center for Public Health Practice (MCPHP), our team collaborates with local, regional, and national partners to improve population health through public health workforce development. Located at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health, MCPHP offers a continuum of consulting services and technical assistance for practice organizations. By linking workforce development initiatives to the strategic needs of partner organizations, we provide customized solutions to address the current challenges in public health practice.

Sept 22, 2011: Engaging Community Health Centers and Local Health Departments

A workshop sponsored by MidAmerica Public Health Training Center and presented by the Primary Care Development Corporation, was provided for Community Health Centers located Battlestar Galactica slot near the Chicago area on September 22, 2011 on emergency preparedness.  An overview of emergency preparedness was conducted, as well as a specific focus on lessons learned, best practices, and introductory information regarding the building blocks of a comprehensive emergency management program (CEMP) for community health centers.

Sept. 16-17, 2011: Community Health Centers – Clinical Leaders Training

The Illinois Primary Healthcare Association in collaboration with MidAmerica Public Health Training Center hosted a two day Community Health Center Clinical Leaders Institute September 16-17, 2011 at UIC School of Public Health in Chicago, IL. This two day training oriented future clinical leaders about different aspects of Community Health Center (CHC) operations, what is expected from them as clinical leaders, and how they fit into CHCs overall governance structure.

A Time to Remember, A Time to Prepare

September is National Preparedness Month – a campaign to improve the preparedness of our nation.  It focuses on inspiring individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to take meaningful action to make themselves and their communities more prepared.  Visit Ready.gov for more information about monthly activities and general emergency preparedness information.  September 20th is the designated Get Ready Day and APHA’s Get Ready campaign can help you plan your Get Ready Day activities.

UIC-SPH Receives CDC Award as Public Health Emergency Response Learning Center

The Illinois Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Center (IPERLC) at UIC was recently funded and is one of 14 such centers at accredited schools of public health.  The network of PERLCs  are expected to serve in a national capacity for fulfilling the preparedness and response training and education needs of the U.S. public health workforce. This center will support tailored workforce development needs by offering assistance to its statewide public health partners. Before receiving this funding, MCPHP housed the CDC-funded Illinois Public Health Preparedness Center, from 2000 until August, 2010, when funding for the program, ended.
