MARPHLI Online Learning and Collaboration
The work of MARPHLI teams is supported through an integrated system of online learning and social networking:
- An instructor-led, online course (optional) may be made available to MARPHLI participants. The purpose of this course is to explore in greater depth the leadership concepts presented at the conferences and in the assigned readings. Course material consists of additional readings, pre-recorded webinars, live webinars, moderated discussion, and resource sharing. Fellows can choose among a menu of topics, or decided to participated in the entire course. For those who complete the course in its entirety, a second certificate will be awarded. These courses will be hosted on publichealthlearning.com.
- Fellows and Mentors will be directed to the MidAmerica Center for Public Health Practice’s (MCPHP) Ning site. This is an online platform that supports social interaction between Fellows, and between Fellows and public health professionals involve in other MCPHP programs. The Ning site offers a variety of tools to communicate and interact, either in real time, or as threaded discussion (eg. discussion threads, profile sharing, voice/video chat, etc.). This site can also be used for teams to communicate to work on group projects and to share documents or other electronic resources.
- All electronic readings, including the MARPHLI schedule of assignments, will be maintained on a “wiki” site. Like Wikipedia, this online encyclopedia houses electronic resources such as the MARPHLI Assignment Book. Each of the online tools described here will be cross-linked for easy access. Use of these tools will be discussed at the Kickoff Conference.
